LEXINGTON, KY - Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) will host the "Girls Can, Too!" Project on Saturday, September 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at BCTC's Georgetown campus. This free event is designed to encourage middle and high school girls to pursue careers in advanced manufacturing, a high-wage high-demand career field in Kentucky.
The event is the first in a series that will feature female instructors and industry professionals providing hands-on activities and an industry tour at BCTC's Advanced Manufacturing Center. The day's exploration covers electricity, engineering, computer-aided design and industrial maintenance, encouraging girls to consider careers in advanced manufacturing.
"Our faculty at BCTC see that the number of women enrolling in the Advanced Manufacturing area are few," says Laura Lynch, the Girls Can, Too! Project Coordinator at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. "The Girls Can Too Project will attempt to explore and address the barriers females face in pursuing these important careers.”
The Girls Can, Too! Project is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
