LEXINGTON, KY — As the nation recognizes the essential work of truck drivers during National Truck
Driver Appreciation Week (September 14–20, 2025), Bluegrass Community & Technical
College (BCTC) is proud to highlight its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program,
designed to prepare students for success in this vital industry.
Launched to meet the growing demand for skilled drivers, BCTC’s CDL Program offers a comprehensive 160-hour training course, equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience required to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDLA). Students who complete the program earn a CDLA I Certificate, meeting all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) that went into effect on February 7, 2022.
“Truck drivers play an essential part of our economy, ensuring that families, businesses, and communities have the goods they need every day,” said Dr. Greg Feeney, BCTC President/CEO. “At BCTC, we are proud to offer a program that supports this vital workforce by preparing safe, skilled, and job-ready drivers who can step directly into high-demand careers.”
The CDL Program includes:
- 160 hours of instruction over 4 weeks (full time)
- 40 classroom hours
- 120 skills and driving training hours using standard transmission trucks
- DOT Physical/Drug Screening
- DOT Rules and Regulations training
- Kentucky CDL Manual review

“Safe, well-trained truck drivers are the backbone of our transportation industry,” said David Wright, BCTC CDL Instructor. “Providing that caliber of student is our highest priority in our CDL program.”
With the trucking industry employing over 3.5 million professional drivers nationwide, BCTC’s program provides students with a direct path to stable, well-paying jobs in a field that keeps America moving.
