Lexington, KY – Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) launches the Bluegrass College
Academy (BCA) at the Danville Campus beginning fall 2025.
The Bluegrass College Academy is a dual credit program primarily for rising high school juniors in the Boyle County area. Students will enroll full-time at BCTC in their junior and senior years of high school and complete their high school diploma and an Associate’s of Art degree by the time they finish high school.
The program is designed for students to take one college class per day each week, with the rest of their time spent in high school classes and activities. College classes will be held either in-person at BCTC Danville's campus or online. The course selection and curriculum will be coordinated between college and high school officials, and upon earning their Associate's degree, students will receive Gen Ed Certification, meaning they will have completed all general education requirements for any public university in Kentucky.
By utilizing the KHEAA Scholarship for 12 credit hours, the KY Work Ready Scholarship for 6 credit hours, and a 50% tuition discount on the remaining credit hours, students can greatly lower the cost of earning an Associate's degree (61 credit hours). Taking advantage of these opportunities could allow you to earn your degree without accumulating debt.
To be eligible for the BCA program, students must have an unweighted GPA of 3.2 or higher, OR an ACT score of 18 or higher in English, 20 or higher in Reading, and 22 or higher in Math. The program is also open to home-schooled and private school students.
"Our dual credit enrollment continues to grow," said Dr. Greg Feeney, President/CEO of BCTC. "By offering dual credit through the Bluegrass College Academy at our Danville Campus, we’re able to expand our reach and positively impact student outcomes. The data shows that students enrolled in these programs experience higher completion rates in both high school and college. I’m incredibly proud of our partnership with local high schools, as it plays a key role in improving access and supporting student success," said Feeney.
“I am very excited that our campus can offer this opportunity to area students,” said Ty Howard, BCTC Danville Campus Director. “This would start their college journey, and I would look forward to working with them daily. With my 30 years in secondary education, I would feel right at home with high school students. If there is any concern about students struggling with the class load, we have many support systems in place on our campus including tutoring, advising, counseling, college transition skills, and career exploration,” said Howard.
The application deadline for the program is July 15th. For more information about the BCA program at BCTC’s Danville campus, please click here: BCA Program Details.
