BCTCs TRiO Upward Bound program traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the U.S. Department of Educations Summer Learning Opportunities Fair as part of the National Summer Learning Day June 20.

BCTC offered two week-long Genomic Approaches in BioSciences workshops June 2-6 and June 9-13 in collaboration with the Cold Spring Harbor Dolan DNA Learning Center (DNALC). The workshops were hosted in the science laboratory at BCTCs Newtown Campus in Lexington Ky.

Today marked the completion of the Kids that Rip Career Craze Camp at the Leestown campus of BCTC. Starting on June 23 the free weeklong camp focused on manufacturing giving 14 middle school students from schools in Fayette County a chance to design and produce their own skateboard using the expertise of BCTCs machine tool technology faculty.

BCTC recently held an End of the Year Recognition Meeting at the Leestown Campus. Dr. Augusta A. Julian President and CEO of BCTC presided over the event and recognized a number of employees for their service and dedication to the college.

Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron will retire from his full-time teaching duties at NARA at the end of 2014 fall semester. McCarron joined KCTCS to launch NARA in 2006.

BCTC Winchester-Clark County Campus has signed an agreement with Pearson VUE the computer-based testing (CBT) business of Pearson to test candidates pursuing their GED. Pearson VUE believes testing and certification is at the heart of the learning experience and BCTC Winchester-Clark County Campus will play its part by offering accessible and secure testing to candidates.

BCTC-NARA graduate Natalie Turner has been selected to compete in the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars race an international apprentice jockey race to be held on Sunday June 15th at the historic Chantilly racecourse in France.

The University of Kentucky and BCTC have been awarded a 1.9 million grant to improve retention of students inthe STEM disciplines: science technology engineering and mathematics through a collection of initiatives dubbed STEMCats.
