TRIO Educational Talent Search
Educational Talent Search is one of eight federal TRIO Programs funded by the US Department of Education. TRIO ETS at Bluegrass Community and Technical College is located on the Leestown Campus in Lexington, KY. We serve a minimum of 680 students attending target schools in Clark, Fayette, and Scott Counties. ETS also serves adults desiring to re-enter and complete their education by attaining a high school diploma or GED and pursuing postsecondary education.
Our mission is to motivate, assist, and encourage eligible participants in 7th-12th grades to not only graduate from high school and successfully pursue postsecondary education, but also to graduate with a bachelor’s degree within six years.
We provide:
- Info about and access to tutoring services.
- Academic advising in course selections.
- Assistance in preparing for the ACT.
- Assistance with completing college applications.
- Assistance with completing the FAFSA and other financial aid resources, i.e. scholarships.
- Guidance and assistance in finding the right college fit.
- Connections to and information on financial literacy topics such as budgeting.
- Cultural experiences.
- College visits and tours.
- Mentoring connections.
- And much, much more.
We motivate, assist, and encourage students through:
- Monthly in-school workshops.
- Family Nights
- Saturday Academies
- Spring Break Trip(s)
- Summer Program(s)
How do i join?
Talent Search accepts applicants on a rolling basis, provided there is space available at the student's school. Due to the nature of our curriculum and the timeline for completing college applications. We generally do not accept new students into the program who are in their second semester, Junior year, or Seniors.
