Dean's List

Each semester, the college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the Dean's List full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in 12 or more hours of courses numbered 100 or above (excluding MA 108).

President's List

Each semester, the college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the President's List full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 4.0 in 12 or more hours of courses numbered 100 or above (excluding MA 108).

Honors Program

The Honors Program provides a unique learning opportunity to students. Students with outstanding intellectual ability, diverse interests, and strong motivation. The program aims to enhance the learning environment at BCTC.

Admission & Program Requirements

First-time Freshmen

First-time freshmen will be automatically accepted if they meet one of the following:

  • Have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4-point scale.
  • Have an enhanced ACT composite score of 24 or higher

Transfer & Current Students

Even if you don't meet one of the criteria above, you should apply. You can apply if you are:

  • A Transfer student or current BCTC student
  • Have a GPA of 3.5 with at least 12 credit hours of college-level coursework 

You'll need the following:

  1. Letter of interest
  2. Interview with Honors Coordinator

All Interested Students

All students interested must complete an online Honors Application (new window).

To complete the honors program, students must:

  • Complete a at least 12 credit hours in Honors Program sections. This includes HNR 101 (Introduction to Contemporary Thought)
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Honors advising
  • Priority registration
  • Small classes
  • Cultural and social activities
  • Advanced university preparation
  • Honors certificate of completion presented with your diploma
  • Opportunity to serve as Presidential Ambassador
  • Official transcript notification certifying Honors Program Graduate
  • Transfer institution visits

These courses allow you to fulfill Gen Ed requirements while deep-diving into subjects. Honors courses only sometimes require more work. Still, they need a high level of intellectual curiosity and independent thinking.

Honors students also take a special designed interdisciplinary course. HNR 101* examines the development & impact of contemporary social, scientific, and philosophical thought.
