Selective Admission: Associate Degree Nursing (to become an RN)
Initial Admission
The Nursing program is a selective admissions program. Admissions can be competitive. Typically, students apply for program admission once all prerequisites are completed, in-progress, or scheduled to be completed by the program start date.
If you are ready to apply for program admission, follow the steps below carefully.
Deadline to Apply for Fall: March 1
The process of applying for the Nursing program is a submission of a complete program admissions packet. Students must submit all required documents with a completed checklist in one envelope by the posted deadline to be considered for program admission. Students must also meet minimum program admission ranking requirements to be considered. Students can review minimum ranking requirements on the ranking point system worksheet.
Step One: Create or Access your Selective Admissions System (SAS) Account
- Create a Selective Admissions System account (new window), unless you already have one, in which case you should access your existing account.
- Review the program’s checklist, available for download through your SAS account. The
checklist is a document that you are required to fill out and submit with your packet.
It lists all required additional documents for your packet.
- You may apply for up to two selective admissions programs each semester. A separate checklist and complete set of required documents should be submitted for each program that you are applying for.
- If you need help locating the checklist, review our FAQ page
Step Two: Apply for Admission to BCTC (if you are not currently enrolled)
- If you are not currently enrolled in classes at a KCTCS school, you must fill out an application for admission to the Bluegrass Community & Technical College. Current KCTCS students do not need to reapply.
Step Three: Attend a Mandatory Preadmission Conference
- Attendance at an annual preadmission conference is required.
- At the preadmission conference, the program coordinator will share important program-specific information. The Admissions Office will review packet requirements, submission procedures, and how to check your admission status in your SAS account.
- An annual preadmission conference certificate must be included in your packet.
Step Four: Submit Official Transcripts to BCTC
- Submit your official transcripts to BCTC from all prior undergraduate colleges and
universities attended, including those from which no credits were earned for courses
attempted. Direct electronic delivery via National Student Clearinghouse or Parchment
is strongly recommended.
- To be official, the transcript must be issued to BCTC directly from the college or university and must show final grades for every period of enrollment completed by the deadline. Unofficial copies, screenshots of transcripts, transcripts emailed from students, etc. are not equivalent to official transcripts and are not accepted.
- If official, final transcripts have already been submitted for general admission to KCTCS then you do not need to include second copies of these transcripts in your packet.
- Transcripts from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System do not need to be submitted.
- If official college transcripts from each college that you have attended have not been delivered to BCTC by the deadline, and are not included in your packet, your packet will be incomplete and non-ranked.
- Students who complete college courses in another country may be required to submit an official course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-member agency. Please contact BL_Admissions@kctcs.edu if you need additional information.
- If you are enrolled in high school or will not have earned any college credits for a grade by the submission deadline, you must order your official high school transcript to be sent to BCTC, or include it in your packet.
Step Five: Submit Official ATI:TEAS Exam Results
- To schedule the exam, please visit the ATI:TEAS website (new window) and select BCTC as your testing location. For additional assistance, contact the
Assessment Center at (859) 246-6669 or email BL_Testing@kctcs.edu.
- It is strongly recommended to take your test in-person at the testing center for ease of score reporting.
- Official ATI:TEAS exam prep materials can be found on the ATI website.
- Scores must be no more than three years old as of the submission deadline, and the exam may be taken every 30 days up to 3 times a year.
- To be official, your TEAS scores must be sent directly from ATI:TEAS to BCTC. It is your responsibility to order your official
scores to be sent to BCTC, and to submit proof of official ATI:TEAS results in your
packet.
- The name of the location to which you should order your test scores to be sent to is Bluegrass CTC ADN.
- When you submit your packet, you must include one of the following to show proof that
BCTC has received your official ATI:TEAS scores.
- An official sealed score report issued by the BCTC testing center.
- A screenshot of your official ATI:TEAS scores in your KCTCS student self-service account.
- If you are unsure of how to find your test scores in your KCTCS student self-service, or if you don’t see your scores in your self-service, please refer to the FAQ “My Nursing or Advanced Standing Checklist Requires that I Provide a Screenshot Showing My Official ATI:TEAS Scores in my KCTCS student self-service account in my packet. How do I find those?”
- Screenshot of the ATI:TEAS website, score reports printed by students, photocopies of official score reports, etc. are unofficial and do not count toward packet completion.
Step Six: Submit Your Complete Packet
- Submit your completed checklist and all required documents listed on your checklist
in one envelope to the Office of Admissions located in The Den on the Newtown Campus by the posted
submission deadline.
- Your packet will be processed and entered into your SAS account within 10 business days of delivery.
- An automated email will be sent from SAS to the email listed on your SAS account when your packet has been entered, but please note that these can be blocked as spam or junk. For this reason, it is imperative to check you SAS account frequently.
- Review the status of your packet by logging into your SAS account. It is your responsibility to check your SAS account frequently. If you have any questions, contact bl-selectiveadmissions@kctcs.edu.
Once the selection committee has made an admissions decision, your SAS account will be updated with a decision. If offered a position or alternate position, you will have one week from the date that positions are posted to accept or decline a position.
