Proof of English Proficiency

In order to be admitted to Bluegrass Community and Technical College with an F-1 visa, all students whose native language is not English must provide official and recent documentation of English proficiency. The Office of Admissions will not accept scanned copies, unofficial transcripts of English programs, or photocopies of results. Students may submit one of the types of evidence listed below. 

Students from English-speaking locations may waive the requirement to provide proof of English proficiency. View the list of English-speaking locations below.

Prior Coursework

Evidence Minimum Requirement for Admission
Completion of an accredited intensive English program (IEP)* Official documentation of program completion
Completion of English 101 (freshman composition) at another college or university** Official transcripts showing completion of classes with grade B or higher

*IEP-accrediting organizations include the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).

**Online coursework is not accepted for English proficiency.

Students who attend and receive a diploma from a U.S. high school or who come from a country with English as the official language are not required to submit proof of English proficiency.

ESL (English Second Language) Admission

If an applicant does not meet the English proficiency requirements for college courses, they may be eligible to be admitted into English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. Potential ESL students must provide official and recent (no older than 18 months) documentation of English proficiency.
