Proof of English Proficiency

In order to be admitted to Bluegrass Community and Technical College with an F-1 visa, all students whose native language is not English must provide official and recent documentation of English proficiency. The Office of Admissions will not accept scanned copies, unofficial transcripts of English programs, or photocopies of results. Students may submit one of the types of evidence listed below. 

Students from English-speaking locations may waive the requirement to provide proof of English proficiency. View the list of English-speaking locations below.

All official English proficiency test score reports must be dated within eighteen (18) months of the first day of classes for the semester for which the applicant is applying.

Prior Coursework

Completion of an accredited intensive English program (IEP)* Official documentation of program completion
Completion of English 101 (freshman composition) at another college or university** Official transcripts showing completion of classes with grade B or higher
Proof of completion for University of Kentucky ESL program at the fifth level or above Official documentation of program completion

*IEP-accrediting organizations include the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).

**Online coursework is not accepted for English proficiency. Course must have been completed at an accredited US or non-US college or university in which English language is the primary language of instruction.

Students who attend and receive a diploma from a U.S. high school or who come from a country with English as the official language are not required to submit proof of English proficiency.
